Why I Started The Arch Learning Design Studio
Hello, everyone! I’m Jaime Mordue, co-founder of The Arch Learning Design Studio. After two decades in the education field and earning three degrees, I’ve decided to steer my career in a new, more fulfilling direction. Instead of returning to another executive, corporate role, I’ve launched a company with incredible individuals. Together, we aim to transform education and training through empowerment, prioritizing diversity, equity, inclusion, and belonging, and innovative solutions. Throughout my career, many colleagues and friends have encouraged me to run my own company. Their faith in my leadership, especially after seeing me lead large, global teams, has been a tremendous source of inspiration. To each of you who believed in me and shared those words of encouragement, I want to express my heartfelt thanks.
My Motivation: Bridging the Gender Gap in Education
Let me take a moment to share one of my biggest motivations for starting The Arch Learning Design Studio. In a field like education, where women have historically held the majority of roles, the gender gap remains far too prominent. Did you know that only 20% of the world’s top universities are led by women? According to the World University Rankings data from Times Higher Education, “Forty-one of the top 200 universities in the latest 2021 ranking from THE have a female leader, up from 39 (19%) in 2020 and 34 (17%) in 2018.” In 2023, the number of women CEOs for Fortune 500 companies reached just over 10%. Think about those numbers for a moment. Even in 2024, a college commencement speech has made headlines for highlighting gender inequity. There’s still a lot of work to do!
A Vision for the Future
People need to see more women as successful business owners, executives, and leaders. I want my children to see me as an accomplished business owner, mother, and spouse. I want them to know that I am more than capable of successfully accomplishing all the roles I choose. All children deserve to see women leveraging their intellect, ideas, and directives for whatever roles they choose, including working professionals.
